Description of labyrinth seal

To reduce leakage,there are many winding chambers between the rotating parts and the fixed parts,labyrinth seal is a seal that consists of several sequentially arranged circular sealing teeth around the rotating shaft, forming a series of intercepting gaps and expansion cavities between the teeth. The sealed medium produces a throttling effect when passing through the gaps of the labyrinth, achieving the purpose of preventing leakage.

Type of Labyrinth seals:

The labyrinth seals can be divided into four types: smooth, zigzag, stepped, and honeycomb.

Hydraulic labyrinth seal can effectively prevent the leakage of the sealed medium, and can also achieve good sealing performance under low pressure. In addition, it has a simple structure, small size, light weight, easy to install and maintain, and has a long service life.

Due to the gap between the rotor and casing of the labyrinth seal, no solid contact, no lubrication, and allowing for thermal expansion, this sealing form is widely used for sealing the shaft ends and stages of steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors, and blowers, as well as for pre sealing other dynamic seals.
